How does the repair service work?

Select the situation that applies to your tape at the bottom of this page.

For every tape you want to have inspected or repaired, you must select the matching option. So if you send 5 tapes, you select 5 items.

You will immediately see the total cost, including the return shipping fee.

You can pay right away, or choose bank transfer. If you choose bank transfer, you pay once I’m finished — I will send you the invoice.

Send your package with a track & trace code. Shipping costs to me are at your own expense.

Write your order number (shown in the confirmation email) clearly on the box.

Tips for packaging / shipping

• Always place tapes on their back.

• If possible, make sure the tape is at the beginning of the loop, so the aluminium splice is visible.

• Pack tapes with melted rubber pinch rollers separately, so the sticky residue doesn’t get on other tapes.

• Remove any loose pieces of plastic, foam, etc., so they don’t end up inside other cartridges.

Important notice

During repair, a cartridge can break. 8‑trackshop cannot accept liability for this.

The plastic may have become brittle over the years, which increases the risk of cracking. Sometimes I need to use force to open a cartridge. It may also be necessary to make a small hole in the label.

If I cannot repair a tape, I will contact you to discuss what you want to do — or you will receive a refund.

What I do not repair

Tape completely off the hub

If the tape has fully unwound from the hub (see photo below), please do not send it in. It can be rewound, but the sound quality is usually poor afterwards and it takes a lot of time.

Accordion tape (harmonica tape)

This is tape that has jammed and folded like an accordion. You can try flattening it with an iron, but results vary and are usually disappointing.
